The Australian Taxation Office has recently seen a spike in automated scam calls impersonating the ATO. These scammers are claiming they’ve suspended their victims tax file number following suspected fraudulent activity.

These scammers are targeting people aged 18-24, showing that anyone can be a target. They tell their victims their TFN has been suspended and advise them to transfer all money to a holding account pending the outcome of legal action.

The ATO will NEVER threaten you with immediate arrest, suspend your TFN or request direct transfers of money to a personal bank account.

If scammers contact you or the caller seems suspicious, please end the call immediately and report the matter to the ATO’s dedicated scam line…
